Ideation and Design Thinking sessions are an essential event to creating stellar learning.
I’ve utilized, managed and lead many types of Ideation and Design Thinking sessions to create stellar learning initiatives both large and small. From high profile company wide compliance training to hands on experiential training for field technicians. If run correctly and managed effectively small and large design sessions can produce amazing results and stellar learning experiences.

The Design Thinking process is engineered to truly bring an evolution to problem solving in ways that provide creative and unique outcomes for ordinary business and consumer needs. It favors development that flushes out ideas in a swift fashion rather than a traditional waterfall approach. The Rapid prototype process allows for ideas to be vetted and tested quickly and is helpful in the development process of product design.
Bringing together a team of talented instructional designers, SME’s and stakeholders requires a sophisticated talent for inspiring everyone involved to contribute and own the process and outcome of the work. It requires a light touch but fierce oversight of all of the elements and people involved from inception through to build and delivery of a final product.

Design Thinking allows for the creation of an Instructional Design Model that is light, dynamic and thorough enough to provide sufficient support in creating Instructional Design. But simple and easy enough to follow or implement so that it does not become a burden to the designers or SME’s. It should be robust yet fluid, Structured yet adaptable. It should allow for a myriad of Training deliverables to be created and easy for others to learn and use themselves. Combined with more traditional design models it ultimately gives Learning and Development organizations a robust tool to create dynamic and challenging course ware.
